Introduction

All people like fairy tales, especially the youngest ones. A usual picture is a mother sitting at the edge of a bed reading a book of fairy tales to her lovely child to whom such kind of engagement is a chance to communicate to parents, to listen to their voices as well as to travel to the world of magic, to witness something new and wonderful.
Fairy tales help to form the world outlook of people, develop and improve our imagination, teach us what is good and what is bad. Thus, a fairy tale is a means of a profound educational influence.
Any person has at least one fairy tale to be called favorite. It interesting how adult people bear in mind various fairy tales of their childhood. Why does it happen? How does it become possible to remember something seeming so unimportant for all life? It is the language of fairy tales that makes it realizable.
Fairy tales of all people and nationalities may be characterized by the use of vivid and bright lexical units, some words referring to the class of archaisms, and expressive syntactical constructions. The use of phraseological units is of no less importance in this respect.
A great number of phraseological units have come into modern national languages from fairy tales. All such phraseological units are fraught with deep meaning and self-evident truth.
In spite of the fact that they have originated from the depth of national wisdom, phraseological units of fairy tales keep being of current interest today. They are widely used both in modern literature and in colloquial language of everyday communication, and help to express people’s thoughts in a more colorful, laconic, precise and emotional way.
Another peculiarity of any fairy tale (and any phraseological unit, accordingly) is the fact that it reflects ethnical and cultural features of the people which it was created by. Through the study of fairy tales and their language scientists may get to know a lot about the people; moreover, the scientific trend dealing with the study of ethnics and cultures is quite topical today.
Thus, the fact that phraseological units coming from fairy tales are widely used nowadays, as well as the fact that they reflect ethnical and cultural peculiarities of a specific people justify the topicality of the research.
It is planned to make a research into the English fairy tales which adds topicality as the English language and the English are of great popularity today: many people study English, so they want to know much about the people which the target language was created by.
The object of the research work is a phraseological unit as a set phrase having specific meaning; the subject, in its turn, concerns methods of Russian translation of definite phraseological units, which are used in various fairy tales of the English.
The objective of the research is an attempt to give a detailed description to the methods which are necessary for translation of phraseological units having the English fairy tales as their source.
To achieve the before-mentioned objective the following research tasks have been determined:
- to give the notion of a phraseological unit;
- to classify phraseological units;
- to study the use of phraseological units in the English fairy-tales;
- to analyze the ways of translation of phraseological units;
- to make a practical analysis of usage and translation of phraseological units in definite English fairy-tales.
The scientific methods to be used in the research are the following:
- description;
- analysis;
- synthesis;
- deduction;
- induction;
- classification;
- componential analysis – to find structural components of meaning of the lexical units under the analysis;
- definitional analysis – to specify lexical meaning of the lexical units under the analysis;
- critical study of scientific literature on the topic.
Structurally the research paper consists of two parts.
The first part deals with the theoretical basis for research into the science of phraseology.
In the second part the analysis of usage and translation of phraseological units in the English fairy-tales is given.
