Syntax is from a Greek word meaning order or arrangement.
Syntax as part of grammar analyses the rules of combining words into phrases, sentences and supra-sentential constructions or texts. Syntax deals with the relation of words to each other as component parts of a sentence, and with their proper arrangement to express clearly the intended meaning.

The object of research is: syntactic processes in modern English.
The subject is: syntactic units.
The aim of this research is: study syntactic processes in contemporary English sentences. We have set the following tasks:
- to study the typology of syntactic processes
- to examine the word-group as a syntactical unit
- to examine the sentence as a syntactical unit
- to analyse syntactic processes in the novel "A stranger in the Mirror" by an English writer Sidney Sheldon
